Smartfactory builds web solutions that do more than just look good.
From our office in Nidau, we develop stable, thoughtful and long-lasting web applications for SMEs, associations, government offices, cantons, startups and large enterprises – across Switzerland and abroad.
To strengthen our team, we’re looking for a
Full Stack Web Developer (70–100%), starting immediately or by agreement.
We’re not looking for someone who just works through their task list and calls it a day.
We’re looking for people who take software development seriously, who take ownership, and who are genuinely motivated to build good solutions.
You bring your own ideas, you think critically, you challenge things where needed – and you help move both the project and the team forward.
We’re not just looking for someone eager to learn – we’re looking for someone who also brings experience that helps us learn too: technically, professionally, and personally.
Your job with us:
- As a Full Stack Web Developer, you'll help us build robust, scalable web applications – from concept to live deployment.
- You develop custom web solutions end-to-end – using Vue.js / Nuxt on the frontend (or Django templates in rare cases) and Python, Django and PostgreSQL on the backend.
- You actively contribute to analysis, architecture and design – together with Interaction Design, Project Management and the dev team.
- You take ownership of your features – including testing, deployment, operations and ongoing improvements.
- Depending on the size of the project, you'll work in smaller or larger dev teams – always with a clear standard for quality and reliability.
- Our current toolbox: Django, Tailwind CSS, Vue.js, Nuxt, Wagtail, PostgreSQL, Docker, GitLab CI/CD
- You're not just an implementer – you're a core part of the project team, with real responsibility and technical depth.
What you should bring:
Senior Web Developer – what we mean by that:
Our rough benchmark is 7+ years of solid experience in web development –
but honestly: if you're a top-tier dev who ships great work with just 5 years behind you, we’re not counting weeks. We care about skills.
The key thing is that after onboarding, you’re able to contribute productively from day one.
You'll learn the "Smartfactory Way” on the job – but in terms of stack and tooling, you should already feel at home.
And just as important: You bring experience – not just in your code, but in how you work.
We’re looking for people who’ve learned from past projects or agencies – and who actively bring that knowledge into the team. You’re not here to start from scratch. You’re here to help shape what we do.
Must-haves
Strong in Django / Python
We build almost everything with Django. If you’ve led or contributed to several real-world projects – perfect.
Alternatively, you’re a strong Python dev and keen to dive deep into Django. In this case, what matters most is that you understand web architecture.
Full-stack experience
You’re confident on the frontend (Vue / Nuxt or comparable modern JS framework), and equally comfortable in the backend.
You think end-to-end and know how the pieces fit together.
We understand that everyone has preferences – and as long as the project allows, we respect them.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related field) –
Not because we believe only graduates are good devs, but because many of our clients expect it.
Language
Fluent in English (our lunch table language).
Internal communication is in English. Most of us also speak German or French, or are from the canton of Fribourg. So English is our common ground – your native language doesn’t matter.
Location:
Must live in Switzerland and be eligible to work here.
What gives you bonus points
- Experience working in a software agency with fast-moving projects
- Master's degree in computer science (or related field)
- Hands-on experience with Three.js or other 3D JavaScript frameworks
- Private repositories or contributions to open-source projects
- Experience with AI/LLM projects or related training
- A healthy appreciation for memes ;-)
Last but not least: common sense is a must
“Just doing what’s written in the ticket” isn’t your style.
You think for yourself, challenge things when needed, and bring your own ideas – in the code, the project and the team.
You’re excited about real-world projects – and no two are the same: new industries, new clients, new challenges.
You contribute proactively when it comes to better solutions, technical clarity or pragmatic decisions.
And yes – you're proud of what you build.
Now for the part you probably care about – what we offer:
- Starting salary between CHF 101,400 and CHF 119,600, based on our entry salary matrix. The exact amount depends on your experience, your tech stack fit, your education, the level of responsibility you take on, and your agency background.
- A bright, modern office in a new building with open architecture, lots of natural light and air conditioning – though let’s be honest: in the dev area, the blinds are down 24/7 so no one has to deal with any of that nonsense.
- A collaborative environment at eye level – we keep things direct and uncomplicated. Decisions are pragmatic, humor is welcome, and nobody insists on formalities just because they can.
- Remote work option: After the probation period, you can work from home up to 50% of the time.
- Free drinks like coffee and soft drinks during working hours – plus a well-stocked beer fridge for after hours, and a water dispenser that serves chilled still or sparkling water at the push of a button.
- An office dog that boosts morale and occasionally collects a few belly rubs.
- Right by the canal – perfect if you enjoy a swim at lunchtime (a few of us actually do this).
- Free parking right in front of the building.
- Public transport: Just a 2-minute walk from Nidau train station – and only 4 minutes by local train from Biel/Bienne main station.
- Hardware of your choice: Mac or Linux – whatever works best for you.
